Roti's

Roti is an Indian Subcontinent flat bread, made from stoneground wholemeal flour, traditionally known as atta flour, that originated and is consumed in India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. It is also consumed in parts of South Africa, the southern Caribbean, particularly in Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, and Suriname, and Fiji. Its defining characteristic is that it is unleavened. It is normally eaten with cooked vegetables or curries; it can be called a carrier for curries or cooked vegetables. It is made most often from wheat flour, cooked on a flat or slightly concave iron griddle called a tawa. Like breads around the world, roti is a staple accompaniment to other foods.

SHRI Rotis are made from specially selected Wheat Flours which we ensure are of the best of the best quality~wise and also Freshly ground.

Directions to use SHRI Rotis:

SHRI Rotis are Made Fresh Daily without adding any Preservatives or any other Additives and have to be kept frozen to preserve them.

We recommend that you keep these Roti packets in the regular refrigeration section and not Freeze it as that might make the Rotis Icy hard & brittle & which then needs to be defrosted before you use it.

However, if you plan to use the Rotis over a period of time i.e. more than 5-7days, we then recommend you put it in the freezer area and bring it out in the regular refrigeration area one packet at a time which you can then use it within 5-7days.

Take out of the refrigerator only the number of Rotis you will need at a time i.e. for the meal and bring it to the room temperature BEFORE you heat it (either on a tava/grill, directly on the flame or the microwave oven). Doing so ensures that the Rotis remain Soft which would otherwise tend to be crispy if heated when still cold.

We are Proud to offer these Rotis – Preservative Free, Salt Free & with the Minimum Oil (only that while binding the dough). No extra oil over that.

However, you may spread oil / butter while heating as per your taste.

Idly

Idli is a traditional breakfast in South Indian households. Idli is a savoury cake that is popular throughout India and neighbouring countries like Sri Lanka. The cakes are usually two to three inches in diameter and are made by steaming a batter consisting of fermented black lentils (de-husked) and rice. The fermentation process breaks down the starches so that they are more readily metabolized by the body.

Directions to make Idlis from 'SHRI' Batter:

A container is good to make around 20-22 Idlis on the Standard Idli stand.

Take out the Idli batter from the Refrigerator and bring it to the room temperature before preparing. Add the amount of water needed to bring it to the required thickness.

Although we have added normal amount of salt, you may add more as per your taste. Bring the water in the Idli Maker to boiling.

Add a pinch of Baking Soda or Eno to the batter and mix it well. Place the batter immediately in the Idli stand and you are ready for the soft, tasty & delicious Idlis.

Important Notes:-

  • Take out of the Refrigerator ONLY the amount of Quantity you need at a time.
  • ADD the Baking Soda/Eno ONLY at the time you are ready to put the batter in the stand and place the stand in the Idli Maker/Cooker. DO NOT leave the batter standing more than 2 minutes after you add it. So make sure you have the water boiling in the Idli Maker/Cooker for the stand to be placed inside before you add the Baking Soda/Eno. (Although you may have the stand placed in the Idli-Maker without boiling the water if thats the way you make; but we recommend boiling the water first because this way you get more soft Idlis.)

Dosa

Dosa is a fermented crepe made from rice batter and black lentils. It is a staple dish in South Indian states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala. It is also popular in other parts of India, and other countries like Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Nepal, Malaysia and Singapore.

Directions to make Dosas from 'SHRI' Batter:

A container is good to make around 16-20 Dosas depending upon the size.

Take out the Dosa batter from the Refrigerator and bring it to the room temperature before preparing. Add the amount of water needed to bring it to the required thickness.

Although we have added normal amount of salt, you may add more as per your taste.

Heat the pan/tawa and spread the batter evenly. Add your other choice of ingredients like Mashed Potatoes with Onions, masalas, oil/butter etc and you are ready for a brown, crispy, tasty & delicious Dosa.

Important Note:-

Take out of the Refrigerator ONLY the amount of Quantity you need at a time.

Uthappam

Uttapam or ooththappam or Uthappa is a dosa-like dish made by cooking ingredients in a batter. Unlike a dosa, which is crisp and crepe-like, uttapam is a thick pancake, with toppings cooked right into the batter. Uttapam is sometimes characterized as an Indian pizza.

Directions to make Uttapam from 'SHRI' Batter:

A container is good to make around 10 Standard size Uttapam.

Take out the Uttapam batter from the Refrigerator and bring it to the room temperature before preparing.

Chop or cut Onions, Tomatoes, Fresh Coriander Leaves, Green Chillies and Ginger. Mix them well and keep aside. Although we have added normal amount of salt, you may add more as per your taste to the batter.

Medium heat a non-stick pan or tawa on the burner and add a little oil/butter on it. Then using a serving spoon spread the batter THICK. Sprinkle the chopped/cut ingredients on the top and add a tsp of oil/butter on sides and leave it for a while. Fire should be between medium and low.

When it is ready (little brown) turn the Uttapam with the help of a spatula. Allow it to bake for a while till the ingredients are well cooked. Turn it once more and keep it for less than a minute to make it crisp. Enjoy it with Tomato Ketchup/sauce, Coconut Chutney and Sambar.

Important Note:-

Take out of the Refrigerator ONLY the amount of Quantity you need at a time.
